The public's fear of counterfeit money and the public's strong negative reaction to the new design of the interim government's bank notes has been created due to the fear of counterfeit money, said MP Md. Jalal Uddin of Chandpur-2 constituency. He further mentioned, "There are allegations that the design of the bank notes is not perfect due to errors in the design of the notes, poor quality graphics, lack of addition of appropriate security features, inconsistent arrangement and improper positioning of security features. As a result, the trend of counterfeit notes in the market is increasing at an alarming rate and the public's confidence in banknotes is decreasing."

He gave this information in a notice to draw attention to matters of public importance given under Rule 71 on the 23rd day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament on Tuesday (April 28).

MP Jalal Uddin said, “Recently, during the interim government's tenure, various serious problems are being observed due to the hasty printing and introduction of new design bank notes in the market. There are allegations that the design of the bank notes is not perfect due to errors in the design of the notes, poor quality graphics, lack of addition of appropriate security features, inconsistent arrangement and improper positioning of security features. As a result, the trend of counterfeit notes in the market is increasing at an alarming rate as it is very easy to counterfeit and the trust of the people in banknotes is decreasing. As a result, every person is directly affected. Due to distrust, people are increasingly reluctant to exchange new notes. As a result, the country's economy is heading towards a major risk, including people's adverse reaction to the government.”

MP Jalal Uddin asked in the notice, “What is the reason for these errors and omissions? It is not that this is the first time that Bangladesh is printing bank notes. Bangladesh has more than forty years of experience in printing bank notes at its own mint. But why is this the case? According to popular opinion and experts, new notes are in the market in a short time, and the impression of immaturity is visible in the design and drawing.”

He also mentioned, “There is manipulation by people of different paths and opinions behind the printing of these notes. Those who are still sitting in important positions in the economy are trying to tarnish the image of the government by taking the economy to a more miserable state.”

Jalal Uddin said in the notice, “On September 9, 2024, former Financial Advisor Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed told reporters while talking to the UN delegation that the fascist government had illegally printed 60 thousand crore taka. As a result, the country's inflation increased abnormally and the purchasing power of the people decreased. The price of goods increased, the value of the money decreased, income inequality increased, uncertainty arose in investment, and the economy was heading towards paralysis day by day. The suffering, suffering and misery of the common people increased. It is worth noting here that those 60 thousand crore taka were illegally printed with the aim of stabilizing the student movement. This money also worked behind indiscriminate torture, injustice, disappearances, murders, and shootings. The crimes of repression, oppression, disappearances, murders, and shootings are not limited to the police and law enforcement agencies, but the money providers are also equally guilty. It is our sacred duty to bring them under the law and if fair trials are given, the martyrs of the July 24 student movement, The souls of those who cause blindness and paralysis will get some relief.”

Regarding the spread of fake money, Jalal Uddin said, “The spread of fake money, printing of illegal money and the circulation of new design defective notes are woven in the same thread. In order to keep the country, nation and economy safe from the clutches of the evildoers who will reduce the evil eye of the people of the country, I propose to the House, through you, Honorable Speaker, to form a parliamentary committee to identify the people involved and bring them to justice.”

He also said, “After many efforts, the police and law enforcement agencies catch the fraud ring and hand it over to the law, but they escape through the loopholes of the law and continue their business. It has been observed that the same ring and the same person escape without any significant punishment even after being handed over to the law. The main reason for this is the weakness of the law. It is the need of the hour to amend this law. I hope the Law Ministry will take appropriate steps in this regard.”
