Bangladesh women's hockey team disappointing debut in the ongoing Asian Games Hickey as they were overwhelmed by a goal avalanche against a formidable Chinese side. China defeated Bangladesh 13-0 in a completely one-sided match.

In the match held this morning (September 20) in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, China dominated proceedings from the very start. The scoring spree began in the fourth minute with a goal from Zhong Jiaqi. Throughout the match, the Bangladeshi players struggled to cope with relentless Chinese attacks.

Zhong Jiaqi scored a hat-trick for China, finding the net in the 4th, 13th, and 29th minutes. Chen Yang (12th and 18th minutes), Zhou Meirong (38th and 51st minutes), and Chen Yi (41st and 57th minutes) each scored a brace.

Additionally, Li Hong (13th minute), Zhang Ying (27th minute), Ma Ning (32nd minute), and Yang Liu (36th minute) scored one goal each. Bangladesh, on the other hand, failed to score throughout the match.

In this 12-team event, the top two teams from each of the two pools will advance to the semi-finals, with the final scheduled for October 2. Teams that fail to reach the semi-finals will compete in placement matches.

The battle for medals in the women's hockey event at these Asian Games also involves qualification stakes for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The gold-medal-winning team will secure direct entry into the main Olympic tournament, while teams finishing between second and fifth place will compete in the 2028 FIH Olympic qualification tournament.

Earlier, the men's hockey team also lost their opening match 5–0 to South Korea. However, the women's team has an early opportunity to bounce back; their second match in Pool A is against Malaysia on Monday (September 21).
