The Bangladesh U-20 national football team's English head coach Gerard Jones has been sacked just a day before the team left for Uzbekistan to play in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

After various dramas surrounding the team's tour, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has finally put an end to Jones' chapter. Reliable sources in the BFF have confirmed this information.

The Bangladesh U-20 football team is scheduled to leave the country for Uzbekistan today. The head coach was removed just 24 hours before this important tour.

According to reliable sources, the team's assistant coach Atiqur Rahman Mishu will temporarily take over as the head coach in his absence.

BFF has indicated that there may be more changes in the coaching staff ahead of the tournament, which is scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 6.

UEFA ‘A’ licensed coach Gerard Jones was appointed on a two-year contract in June. However, his short tenure has been overshadowed by off-field controversies. The first trouble began at a training camp in Jessore.

There, he complained on social media about unpaid wages and lack of security, which left the federation in a very embarrassing situation.

However, the situation took a turn for the worse recently during the team’s stay at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Dhaka. Jones and assistant coach Mishu got into a heated argument at one point, which later turned into a physical altercation. The incident led the British coach to call the national emergency number 999 and call the police to the team hotel.

Soon after the news of the hotel scuffle came to light, Jones posted a video on Facebook and made serious allegations.

He said, "I was physically attacked at work, I still don't feel safe." He expressed his anger at the BFF, adding that he had not received any help from them even after submitting a written complaint to the federation along with pictures of the injuries.

It is believed that the federation canceled the team's official press conference at the last minute to avoid facing tough questions from journalists about incidents such as the coaches' fight and the police being called. The press conference was scheduled to be held at the BFF building at 4 pm on Tuesday. But just before it was to begin, the BFF's media department issued a brief notice stating that the press conference had been canceled "due to unavoidable reasons."
