Bangladesh ended their U-20 Women's Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament campaign on a high as the 'Red and Green' squad secured fifth place by defeating a formidable Malaysian side 2-1 In their final match of the event on Saturday.

Bangladesh team played outstanding hockey from the very beginning of the fifth-place play-off match held in Hulunbuir City, China. Neither team managed to score in the first half. Finally, in the third quarter, captain Sharika Safa Rimon put Bangladesh ahead with a brilliant goal from a penalty stroke.

Subsequently, Kona extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth quarter with a superb field goal. Malaysia managed to pull one goal back towards the end.

Sports experts view this victory—achieved by breaking down Malaysia's strong defense—as one of the greatest successes in the history of women's hockey in the country. After displaying a fighting spirit throughout the tournament, the Bangladesh team finished in fifth place with this win.
