Discussions were held regarding the further strengthening of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Nepal through cricket and sports diplomacy.

On Thursday morning, the Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, met with the State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, at the Bangladesh Secretariat. During the meeting, they discussed enhancing sports and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Bangladesh for the timely assistance provided during the recent devastating floods and natural disasters in Nepal.

Highlighting the strong political ties existing between the two countries, he emphasized the need to further increase bilateral engagement and cooperation. The Ambassador stated, "Bangladesh and Nepal share excellent political relations; however, there is immense scope to take this relationship further through cultural exchange and sports."

The Nepalese Ambassador proposed organizing a bilateral cricket series between the two countries, noting that no such series had taken place recently.

He said, "Our people, especially those affected by the recent disasters, need inspiration. We request Bangladesh to host a T20 series. Our team is fully prepared to tour Bangladesh, and we are equally ready to welcome the Bangladesh team to Nepal."

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque responded positively to Nepal's proposal. He reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to utilizing sports diplomacy as a key tool for fostering regional cooperation.

Aminul Haque stated, "We firmly believe in sports diplomacy and are already working to expand cooperation across various sports disciplines."

He requested the Nepalese Ambassador to submit a formal letter regarding this proposal. The State Minister assured that once the letter is received, necessary initiatives would be taken in consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Meanwhile, Aminul Haque also proposed leveraging Nepal's geographical advantages to enhance the training and capabilities of Bangladeshi athletes. He specifically urged Nepal to provide support and opportunities for Bangladeshi athletes in sports such as mountaineering. The meeting emphasized the potential to strengthen mutual relations through cricket, alongside enhancing sports and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
