There was no 'mismanagement' in the power sector, there was corruption and theft: Partha

Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha has strongly criticized the Awami League government during a discussion on the power sector crisis and the country's contemporary political situation in the National Assembly. He said, "There was no 'disorder' in the power sector during the Awami League period, there was rampant corruption and planned theft."
He said these things while participating in the vote of thanks on the President's address on the 23rd day of the first session of the 13th National Assembly on Tuesday (April 28). Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram presided over the session on that day.
Citing a speech given by the State Minister for Power in the National Parliament last week, Partha said, “The word ‘mismanagement’ during the fascist era is a very soft and gentle word compared to this horrific plunder. Basically, an artificial crisis was created with the direct support of Toufiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury, completely bypassing Bapex. Then, the country was economically destroyed in the name of quick rental, the burden of which this nation is still carrying.”
Analyzing the psychology of the young generation, Partha said, “We need to understand the reason why the young society now repeatedly talks only about the 36-day mass uprising of July. We have not been able to properly convey to the youth the indescribable atrocities that the Awami League has committed for the past 17 years since 2008.”
Partha said, “When many current MPs were only 10 years old, 3 million people became fakirs due to the ‘darmerie’ of the stock market. The wounds of the BDR Peelkhana massacre or the insults to scholars and scholars in Shapla Chattar may not be felt by today’s generation in the same way. The parliament was tarnished by placing people like Yaba Emperor Badi or Mumtaz in this holy parliament, which is very important to inform the youth.”
Regarding the judiciary and administration, Partha said, “During the Awami League era, the judiciary was destroyed in such a way that a Chief Justice himself was forced to flee the country. Important judicial proceedings like Begum Khaleda Zia’s verdict were written sitting on the veranda of Ganabhaban.”
Criticizing the education system, he said, “Education has been brought to such a low ebb that many students who have obtained GPA-5 today will not speak English, let alone recognize their passports properly. The historic responsibility of rescuing the country from this systematic destruction has now fallen on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.”
Partha criticized the political stance of the current opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman and his alliance. He called it ‘two-faced behavior’ and said, “Making insults about the Zia family or calling for a movement on the streets and then speaking in a different tone in parliament is nothing but political hypocrisy. Even if it took 17 years to remove the Awami League, it will not take even 16 days to change the current situation. Calling for a major change in political culture, he proposed representation in the upper house of parliament for expatriates and garment workers.” At the same time, he strongly demanded the passage of the ‘Economic Treason’ or Economic Treason Act to curb bank robbery and economic crimes.
In the face of such a strong attack by Barrister Partha, the Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman quickly protested. He questioned the source and reference of Partha's statement. Shafiqur Rahman drew the attention of the Speaker and said, "When we stand on this floor and give any reference with a document in hand, it should be clear and appropriate. Presenting the reference in a confusing way creates a problem."
Shafiqur Rahman said, "I do not say such reckless things in the name of anyone. Not even in the name of Sheikh Hasina's family. Whoever does the wrong will be punished, if someone else says it, it will not be done in my name." He claimed that Barrister Partha was making baseless allegations against him to gain cheap popularity and to inflame the Parliament.
During this heated exchange of words in the Parliament session, the Speaker called on both sides to exercise restraint. The Speaker said, "It is the responsibility of all members to maintain the dignity of the great National Parliament."
Partha said, "I am talking about documents. In today's era of digitalization, it is not possible to get away with false information. Those who are trying to present the July uprising in a different way will not be spared." At the same time, he said that he has many more documentary evidence regarding the activities of Jamaat-e-Islami and their negative propaganda about the Zia family, which he will present before the parliament in stages and will be able to speak all day.
